OKMULGEE, Okla. — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) confirmed two deputies were shot on Thursday evening.
A little before 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, authorities said the Okmulgee Police Department was called out to an area near South Morton Avenue and West 11th Street for a disturbance call.
Police said when they attempted to make contact with the suspect, he fired his weapon at officers before barricading himself inside.
The Okmulgee Police Department then reached out to other agencies for assistance, including the Okmulgee Sheriff’s Office.
Law enforcement identified the suspect as Ronel Miles, and OSBI stated he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest when this incident occurred.
Authorities said the Okmulgee County Sheriff’s Office’s tactical team responded to the scene and once again attempted to make contact with Miles.
OSBI said Miles shot at deputies several times, striking two of them.
Both deputies were treated on scene before being transported to the hospital.
Both deputies are reported to be in stable condition and are expected to make a full recovery.
Following the double shooting, authorities said they were eventually able to take Miles into custody.
OSBI reported that Miles wasn’t harmed as he was arrested, and said no one else was hurt during the incident.
OSBI was called out to investigate the scene, which is common practice when an officer-involved shooting occurs.
