TULSA, Okla. — A 14-year-old boy was arrested early Sunday morning by Tulsa Police, after they say he stole a woman’s SUV and led police on a chase for several miles.

Police say a little before 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning, the victim had left her Ford Escape running in the parking lot outside the Wingstop at 31st and Garnett, because she wanted it to warm up.

That’s when they say the 14-year-old suspect got in the vehicle and took off.

They say it was spotted by the Tulsa Police Department helicopter, which relayed the location to officers in patrol vehicles on the ground, and soon they were in pursuit.

They say things took a dangerous turn when the teen wound up going the wrong way on the Muskogee Turnpike and hit the center median.

They say he got out and ran but quickly gave up when he saw the helicopter above.

They say he also had a gun.

They say the 14-year-old is a tribal member and falls under the McGirt ruling, so Lighthorse Police arrested him and booked him into jail in Stroud on numerous charges including Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Eluding, and Possession of a Firearm by a Minor.
