SALINA, Okla. — The Cherokee Nation is celebrating the opening of a new $12 million Head Start facility in Salina.
The new Salina Head Start is set to open Thursday, February 5. It will have six classrooms, a gross motor room which can operate as a storm shelter, a commercial kitchen, and multiple classrooms. Four of the six classrooms will be for Early Head Start and have separate playgrounds and green spaces.
The new facility is approximately 18,300 square feet.
The Cherokee Nation serves 900 children through Head Start programs. Students are taught cognitive, language, motor and social skills as part of the tribe’s Head Start programs.
