Oklahoma lawmaker proposes bills preventing AI from obtaining “personhood status”

By Ben Morgan

An Oklahoma congressman has introduced legislation to regulate artificial intelligence and prevent it from having “personhood status.”

Durant Representative Cody Maynard’s proposed bills, including House Bill 3546, aim to ensure that AI does not have the same rights as humans and cannot be used to shift blame for unlawful actions onto technology.

Maynard’s legislation also focuses on holding companies accountable for AI interactions with minors and potential copyright issues related to AI use.

Similar laws have been passed or proposed in other states to establish realistic safeguards for AI technology.
