Green Country is about to be smacked by a winter storm.
The National Weather Service is calling for eight to 12 inches of snow.
NWS Meteorologist Mike Lacy says the cold front hitting on Friday will also bring dangerous arctic air.
“We’re going to see lows drop probably below zero, especially if we clear out and we have the snow on the ground,” said Lacy. “We could get really cold and just enough wind to bring a really dangerous windchill.”
A winter storm watch remains in effect from Friday afternoon through late Saturday night.
Meteorologists say the heavy snow will likely begin as early as Friday and intensify Friday evening and overnight.
A glaze of ice up to two tenths of an inch will be possible near the Red River along with accumulating sleet and snow.
Winds may also gust near 35 miles per hour during the day on Friday.
Travel will be very difficult.
The hazardous conditions may impact the Friday evening commute and travel through the weekend.
Sunday will not be as cold, with highs in the lower 30s.
FOX23 and KRMG Chief Meteorologist James Aydelott and the entire KRMG StormCenter team stand ready to activate the StormCenter if warranted this weekend.
