OKLAHOMA — Former Speaker of the Oklahoma House T.W. Shannon is set to announce his run for Lieutenant Governor on Tuesday.
Shannon is the first Black Speaker of the Oklahoma House and was the youngest Speaker in Oklahoma history at the time he took office.
In 2022, Shannon came in second to current U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin in the election to replace then retiring U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe.
According to Shannon’s campaign, he will be formally launching his run for Lt. Governor at 11:00 a.m. in Tulsa on Tuesday.
Shannon is set to join a crowded campaign field that includes State Auditor Cindy Byrd, State Representative J.J. Humphrey and State Senator Darryl Weaver to name just a few in the Republican Primary.
If elected, Shannon would make history again as Oklahoma’s first Black Lieutenant Governor.
