TULSA, Okla. — On Thursday, a jury convicted the man discussed in a 2024 Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office press conference on two counts of First Degree Rape.

In 2024, the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office said Joshua Dacosta, a man originally from Guyana living illegally in the United States, was accused of raping four Tulsa women across an 11 year time period.

Dacosta was identified after his DNA was entered into the national database related to the 2019 rape case of an underage girl. His DNA was then matched to three other unsolved rape cases, according to authorities.

Deputies were able to pursue First Degree Rape charges related to the 2019 case and a 2013 case involving the rape of another underage girl.

In the other two cases, one victim chose not to cooperate with authorities and the other victim had taken her own life.

The jury recommended Dacosta receive an 80 year prison sentence.

Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler said Dacosta also faces deportation due to his illegal immigration status.

Dacosta is scheduled to receive his formal sentencing in late February.
