The Tulsa Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of their own after he suffered a fatal medical emergency during his shift.
On Saturday, the Tulsa Fire Department announced the passing of Assistant Fire Marshal Stephen Mixon. He was hired by the Tulsa Fire Department in March of 1998. Most recently, he served in the Code Enforcement Office as an Assistant Fire Marshal, where he worked tirelessly to ensure buildings across the city were safe places for people to live, work, and gather.
Mixon also spent countless hours educating children about fire safety, planning smoke alarm installation events, conducting car seat safety checks, and working to prevent fires before they could happen.
A statement from the Tulsa Fire Department reads: He was a trusted colleague, a dedicated public servant, and a valued member of the Tulsa Fire Department family. Stephen’s compassion, faith, and commitment to service will not be forgotten. Our deepest sympathies are with Stephen’s family, friends, and fellow firefighters during this incredibly difficult time. We respectfully ask the public to keep Stephen’s family and the Tulsa Fire Department in your thoughts and to honor their need for privacy as they grieve.
