Oklahoma Supreme Court rules 2025 Social Studies Standards will not be enforced

By Ben Morgan and FOX23.com News Staff

The Oklahoma Supreme Court struck down the 2025 Social Studies Standards that former State Superintendent Ryan Walters tried to enforce.

The Supreme Court ruled that the State Board of Education violated the Open Meeting Act when it approved the 2025 Oklahoma Academic Standards for Social Studies.

The court found that later legislative inaction did not fix the violation. As a result, the 2025 standards cannot be enforced, and the 2019 Social Studies Standards are still in effect until new standards are properly adopted and approved.

The state Supreme Court had already blocked the 2025 Social Studies Standards from being implemented pending a final decision.
