Tulsa weather can vary greatly for Thanksgiving

TULSA, Okla. — Mother Nature can bring just about any kind of weather to Tulsa for the upcoming holiday. After all, we are in a season of transition.

A typical holiday will bring Tulsa highs in the upper 50s and lows in the mid-30s with an average rainfall of 0.07 inches.

This year, we are expecting some rainfall which will limit our temperature range from the mid-40s to the mid-50s during the day. It won’t be the nicest holiday for outdoor plans, but far from the most inclement.

Let’s set the table for some extremes of Thanksgivings past. Our warmest Thanksgiving came in 1965 when we could have sat poolside for our meal in Tulsa as we hit a balmy 84 degrees Fahrenheit. On the other hand though, we have had years with temperatures below freezing all day long like in 1985 and 1993.

The coldest temperature recorded for the holiday was a frigid 13 degrees Fahrenheit, fittingly in 1913.

Many of us may remember our wettest Thanksgiving on record. It happened just seven years ago in 2015 when nearly an inch of rain fell that day.

And yes, we have even seen a White Thanksgiving before. Our snowiest Turkey Day came in 1958 when an inch of snow coated the ground.

We’ll be needing that rain coat this year, but thankfully no winter gear.
