Tulsa police release new tool to track crime from your computer

TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Police Department has a new online interactive tool to help you see crime reports closer to your neighborhood.

This interactive crime map is another way for TPD to be open and transparent about crime happening in our community.

Police lights, crime scene tape, and investigators are usually a pretty good sign something has happened. They say the squeaky wheel gets the grease and the same can be said for when people want to know what’s going on.

“You can keep track with this stuff as fast as we can keep track with it,” said Officer Danny Bean.

This map lets you zoom in closer to where you live to check out crime reports.

“We’ll show these things and update them, like where a homicide occurred, or a violent crime has occurred,” said Officer Bean.

The map shows what crimes police were dispatched to in the month of February. Reported crimes range from robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, rape, and auto thefts. Police hope people utilize the tool for their benefit.

“We encourage them to check it if that’s something that their interested in, or they have questions and are looking for answer they might can check that out before asking us, look at that map and find out what’s going on or what we’re talking about.”

For privacy reasons you can’t pinpoint an exact address, but you can search by area. FOX23 check it out and typed in Kendall Whittier district in the search bar. It zooms in and allows me to see areas where a crime was reported. You can also move use your mouse or keypad to move around the area.

“We made this heat map, or crime map to help be more transparent to show what’s going on, especially right now we know people are interested in certain parts of the area.”

The map is still in the beginning phases and updates are in the works.
