Tulsa nonprofit delivers holiday meals to homebound seniors

TULSA, Okla. — Meals on Wheels Metro Tulsa volunteers cook, package and deliver meals to people who are confined at home.

“This is a true labor of love,” said Katie Oatsvall, the organization’s president and CEO. “So many of the people that we have the privilege of serving every day are not only aging but they’re isolated, they’re homebound, and so receiving a hot, celebratory holiday meal is not only heartwarming, but it’s that connection back with the community.”

Nearly 300 volunteers showed up on Thanksgiving to deliver 1,200 meals to people across the Tulsa metro.

“We don’t want any of our seniors to be hungry or lonely,” Oatsvall added.

Volunteers Kayla Fointno and Paige Patton are two who decided to bless their neighbors in need.

“Really just wanting to give back on Thanksgiving day and show our gratefulness for how I’ve been blessed. Just wanted to bless someone else,” Fointno said.

Fointno and Patton said they could have been doing anything else on Thanksgiving morning, but chose to volunteer. That choice to give back has come full circle.

“I’m from Tulsa, so Meals on Wheels actually used to deliver to my grandmother,” said Patton. “So when she brought up the idea I’m like, we have to do it.”

What started as an idea they had, grew into action of abundant giving on Thanksgiving Day.

“It feels amazing. It feels amazing. I know they’ll be excited. We’re going to be excited,” said Patton. “We’re going to be prayed up and just excited to give back and so it feels so good because we’re so thankful and because we’re so blessed to be able to help bless others.”
