Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum, Park Officials announce one-of-a-kind playground

TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum and Park Officials have announced a one-of-a-kind playground is coming to Tulsa.

Speaking Thursday morning at Whiteside Park near East 41st Street and South Yale Avenue, Mayor Bynum says the city is building a $1.2 million playground that will be accessible to children of all ages and abilities.

“This park will be really the only park of its kind in the state of Oklahoma and in the region, where you have a broad array of playground equipment designed specifically so that kids of all abilities can utilize it,” Mayor Bynum told us at the announcement.

Some of the features on the inclusive playground will include spinning teacup-style equipment, and swings with built-in harnesses for kids who may need upper body support.

Officials say crews will also be adding handicap-accessible restrooms for families to use.

The Burnstein Foundation has donated $1 million to help make this project a reality. The remaining $200,00 comes from voter-approved funds designated to upgrade playground equipment city-wide.

Construction is expected to begin early next year. Officials say they hope to have the new playground completed by the Spring of 2023.
