BRYAN, Texas — A 40-year-old Texas woman was arrested and charged with injury to a child after the girl was found dead in her home Tuesday.
According to KXXV, Jessica Bundren called police Tuesday night and said that she found her 6-year-old stepdaughter unconscious.
She told authorities the child had fallen down two steps earlier in the night and was sent to bed before Bundren discovered she was not breathing.
When investigators found bruises and puncture marks on the child’s arms, face and torso, Bundren said the girl had been spanked with a belt six times because she wet the bed. Bundren also told officials she sent the child back to sleep on the floor, KXXV reported.
She said the last time she checked on the girl, she was breathing.
According to KBTX, authorities searched the home and found “a belt that had a slit on the end with metal rivets” that matched the girl’s injuries.
Bundren was arrested and is being held on a $150,000 bond.
