Suspects in custody after bishop robbed at gunpoint while livestreaming sermon

NEW YORK — Two suspects have been arrested for robbing a bishop of an estimated $1 million worth of jewelry during a live sermon broadcast online.

According to The New York Times, Juwan Anderson, 23, of Brooklyn and Saquon Pollack, 24, were arrested Wednesday in connection with the brazen July attack.

Bishop Lamor Whitehead was livestreaming on July 24 when three men wearing dark hoods kicked open the back door to the sanctuary a few minutes into his sermon.

With guns drawn, the thieves made their way to Whitehead.

“I said, ‘Alright, alright, alright,’ pretty much stating that I’m not going to do anything because I know you’re coming for me. You’re coming straight to me. I don’t want my parishioners hurt. I’ve got women and children there,” Whitehead said.

According to a news conference on Wednesday, the suspects have numerous prior arrests.

Whitehead said that he is relieved following the arrests.

“I’m hoping that this clears a lot of things up with my name as far as, you know, the world believing that I’m a villain instead of a victim, and it hurts,” Whitehead told WABC.

The third suspect, whom police declined to identify, has not been captured, according to WNYW. Police said that they had not recovered the stolen jewelry.
