Second Nature Brands sold the recalled snacks in 4-ounce bags under the Shiela G’s brand name online and at retail stores nationwide.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the company said in a recall notice published by the Food and Drug Administration. It urged people who bought the recalled brownie brittle not to eat it and to instead contact the company for a full refund.

The snacks being recalled are 4-ounce pouches of Gluten-Free Reese’s Pieces Brownie Brittle with UPC 711747011562. The affected bags have lot codes SG 1054 15/NOV/2023 1S and SG 1054 15/NOV/2023 2S printed on the backside of pouches.

One person has become ill in connection with the recall, according to Second Nature Brands. The company said it determined that cross-contamination at a co-manufacturer caused the brownie brittle to be contaminated with undeclared wheat.

Production of the snacks has been suspended until after the FDA and Second Nature Brands can be sure the issue has been corrected, officials said.

Consumers can reach the company by calling at (800) 651-7263 on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. EST or via email at recall@browniebrittle.com.
