Performance venues offer to help with coronavirus vaccine distribution

Theaters are sitting empty, but there could be a new use for the thousands of locations that normally host entertainers.

Concert promoters Live Nation Entertainment and Anschutz Entertainment Group have reached out to President Joe Biden’s administration to offer assistance and locations for coronavirus vaccine distribution, The Wall Street Journal reported.

In a letter to the White House, the two groups said they can handle the large crowds expected as vaccine distribution continues.

“In fact, because we are shuttered, we are able to offer the full weight of our industry to support vaccine distribution beginning immediately,” the letter said, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The staff and venues are free because many events that would be staged in arenas and in theaters have been canceled, leaving staff that normally deal with thousands of people out of work, Variety reported.

The letter doesn’t say the service will be free, but it also doesn’t state any specific costs associated with the use of venues for vaccine distribution, The Wall Street Journal reported.

On Jan. 16, the president and CEO of Live Nation, Michale Rapino, tweeted that the music industry could step in.

The music industry isn’t the only privately-run group to offer help in vaccine distribution.

Amazon also offered its services, USA Today reported.
