Answering a call about a man in cardiac arrest, responding emergency personnel found the snake wrapped around the neck of the unconscious man who was lying on the floor, according to The Washington Post.

The police identified the man only as the snake’s owner.

Upper Macungie Township, Pennsylvania Lt. Peter Nickischer, told the Post.

The “very large, very thick” snake had wrapped its midsection around his neck — and its eyes were on the officers, Nickischer told The Washington Post.

Nickischer explained that one of the officers fired a single shot that hit the snake in the head. The snake released its grip and moved away. Law enforcement authorities could not say what type of snake It was.

The man was given “lifesaving measures” and taken to the hospital. His condition was not known as of Thursday, Nickischer added.

The snake died.

“It eventually just expired,” Nickischer said of the snake. “One of the officers described it as ‘right out of a horror movie’.”
