Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade: Performers, new balloons announced

The entertainment is lined up and there will be new giant character balloons added to the 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Santa Claus will of course be the star of the 96th annual event, but the jolly man in red will be joined by 16 giant character balloons, 28 floats, 40 inflatables, 12 marching bands, 700 clowns and 10 performance groups, The Associated Press reported.

“This November, as we once again set the stage for the start of the holiday season, we are thrilled to showcase another spectacle full of magic and wonder that will help create everlasting memories with loved ones during this special time of year,” Will Coss, the parade’s executive producer, said in a statement to the AP.

The Minion Stuart and Bluey will be larger than life floating above the parade route as giant balloons. They will be joined by a new “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” and an Apatosaurus balloon.

They will be added to the lineup with “Ada Twist, Scientist,” “The Boss Baby,” “Paw Patrol’s” Chase, the Pillsbury Doughboy, “Ryan’s World’s” Red Titan, Papa Smurf, Ronald McDonald, SpongeBob SquarePants, Pikachu and Eevee, the AP reported.

The parade is expected to be jam-packed with entertainers, including:

• Paula Abdul
• Fitz and the Tantrums
• Big Time Rush
• “Blue’s Clues &You!” host Josh Dela Cruz
• Gloria Estefan, her daughter Emily and grandson Sasha
• Kirk Franklin
• Mario Lopez
• Ziggy Marley
• Miss America 2022 Emma Broyles
• Joss Stone
• Jordin Sparks
• Betty Who
• Adam Devine
• Sarah Hyland
• Flula Borg
• Jimmy Fallon & The Roots

Several Broadway shows will perform with Lea Michelle leading the cast of “Funny Girl.” The casts of “A Beautiful Noise,” “Some Like It Hot,” “The Lion King” and The Radio City Rockettes will each have a number.

There will be 12 marching bands from all over North America including musicians from Florida, South Carolina and even Veracruz, Mexico.

The parade will be broadcast on Nov. 24.
