Former Kansas City Chiefs’ coach Britt Reid charged with DWI after crash injures 5-year-old girl

Britt Reid, a former coach with the Kansas City Chiefs, has been charged two months after a crash that left a 5-year-old girl seriously injured.

Reid was charged with DWI — serious physical injury, WDAF reported.

The felony charge has a potential of a one to seven-year jail sentence. Prosecutors are requesting Reid be held on a $100,000 bond, KSHB reported.

The news station said Reid’s blood alcohol content was .113 and he was driving 82 miles per hour seconds before the February crash near Arrowhead Stadium. The posted speed was 65.

The girl was left in critical condition.

The crash happened after a Chevrolet Impala ran out of gas on a ramp near the stadium, and a family in a Chevrolet Traverse had stopped to offer assistance, police said. according to WDAF.

Reid was driving on the same ramp, hitting first the Impala then the Traverse with his Dodge Ram Laramie pickup, WDAF reported.

He told police who responded that he had had two or three drinks and a prescription for Adderall. He had undergone a field sobriety test and police said he showed signs of impairment, WDAF reported.

Reid also was injured in the crash, and was taken to an area hospital for surgery.

Reid is not currently employed by the Chiefs and the NFL is investigating the crash. He had been an outside linebackers coach for the Chiefs. His father, Andy Reid, is the head coach.

The girl, named Ariel, woke from a coma on Feb. 15. She was still hospitalized in late March, receiving treatment for a brain injury, KSHB reported.
