According to The Associated Press, Transport Canada said the existing rules for masks which have been required on planes will come off on October 1. The Public Health Agency of Canada, however, strongly recommends that people wear masks in crowded areas or on public transport, but it is not required.

Government officials confirmed to the AP that Canada will be dropping the vaccine requirement for those coming into the country by the end of the month. In addition, the Canadian government shared that tens of millions of Canadians have been vaccinated.

The Canadian government agreed to end COVID-19 vaccination requirements at the border on September 30, according to the AP. This also includes the ending of random COVID-19 testing at airports.

The dropping of the vaccine requirement means professional athletes who aren’t Canadian citizens, such as MLB players will be allowed to enter the country, according to the AP. It would also apply to the NBA and the NHL.

The AP reported that unvaccinated travelers who are able to enter Canada must quarantine for 14 days and are subject to mandatory arrival tests.

The United States also requires people entering the county to be vaccinated like Canada currently does but has not announced any changes to its mandate, according to the AP.
