CAROLL COUNTY, Ga. — Three law enforcement officers were injured early Monday in a chase across three jurisdictions that left one suspect dead and another in jail, according to authorities.
The injured officers were identified as Carroll County Deputy Jay Repetto, Carrollton police Sgt. Rob Holloway and Villa Rica police Officer Chase Gordy. All three were being treated at local hospitals following Monday’s chase, officials said.
The suspects were not immediately identified. Authorities said one was jailed Monday morning and the other was dead of a gunshot wound, although it was not immediately clear who fired the fatal shot.

“This morning we had a very horrific incident that happened here in Carroll County,” Sheriff Terry Langley said at a news conference. “We want to send our prayers out to all the families involved, to those officers that were shot and for their speedy recovery.”
The pursuit began around 3:30 a.m., after a trooper clocked a Nissan passenger vehicle moving at 111 mph on the interstate, according to authorities.
The trooper conducted a traffic stop, but officials said the car took off as the trooper was approaching, prompting him to give chase. At one point, the trooper successfully used a PIT, or pursuit intervention technique, maneuver to turn the Nissan sideways in an attempt to stop the pursuit, but Capt. Brandon Dawson, Troop D commander for the Georgia Department of Public Safety, said the driver was able to regain control of the vehicle and continue to flee.
“(The Nissan’s) passenger used a rifle and shot at the trooper’s patrol car, actually striking and disabling it,” and taking the trooper out of the chase, Dawson said. Officials passed information on to local agencies, who soon joined the pursuit.
Carrollton police Chief Joel Richards said a passenger leaned out of a window and began to fire at an officer’s vehicle as the chase continued up Georgia Highway 61. Holloway was hit by the gunfire and lost control of his vehicle, striking a utility pole. The sergeant, who has been with Carrollton police since 2008, was flown to a hospital in Atlanta, where he was undergoing surgery Monday.
Authorities followed the Nissan down a side road in Villa Rica as the gunfire continued. Police Chief Michael Mansour said bullets struck a patrol car and Gordy, who was taken to Grady Hospital in Atlanta for treatment of his injuries.
Langley said Repetto suffered a gunshot wound to the arm. He was also taken to a hospital for treatment.
Officials said the surviving suspect was taken into custody following a negotiation. Langley said the suspect was in Carroll County Jail by mid morning Monday.
“There’s not a whole lot more that we can tell because this is an ongoing investigation,” Langley said Monday, noting that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is heading a probe into the officer-involved shooting. “It could’ve been a lot worse, and we’re thankful (it wasn’t) … We pray for the speedy recovery of our officers.”
