Tally’s Good Food Cafe gives free dinners on Thanksgiving

TULSA, Okla. — Every Thanksgiving, for the past 35 years, Tally’s Good Food Cafe has fed free Thanksgiving dinner to anyone who stops by their midtown restaurant.

The owner of Tally’s, Tally Alame, said Thanksgiving is his favorite day of the year because it’s about being thankful for what we have and sharing it with others.

“I always thought, if I open my own place, I want to help people out, because I see it throughout the year, how people are struggling and don’t have enough money,” he said.

Ceejay Arnold said her family’s oven wasn’t working, so she and her husband brought their two daughters to Tally’s.

“My family, we’ve kind been struggling this year. And so, we were looking at not even having a Thanksgiving. We were just going to sit at home and eat ham sandwiches or whatever. And when we were able to find out about this, honestly, it was just great to have a good home-cooked meal,” she said.

Senior citizen Phyllis Freedlund said it’s a good chance to socialize.

“This is company to me, because I live by myself. No reason to stay home by yourself, when you can come meet new people,” she said.

Marine veteran G. L. Hamlin said he’s enjoyed Thanksgiving at Tally’s’s for the past 30 years.

“He been feeding folks for decades, for years, and that’s why he has such a blessed business,” he said.

Steven Harmon said he’s without family and would have spent Thanksgiving alone.

“It means a whole lot to have somebody that cares,” he said.

Alame said no one should be left out of having Thanksgiving dinner.

“No one should be left out without having Thanksgiving dinner, and that’s the reason why I do it,” he said.
