Harris campaign travel scrapped after aides test positive

Campaign travel is on hold through Sunday for Democratic running mate Kamala Harris after positive Coronavirus tests came back for her chief spokeswoman and a flight aide, sidelining the California Senator with two and half weeks until Election Day.

“Late on the night of Wednesday, October 14th, we learned that two individuals involved in the campaign tested positive for COVID-19,” Biden campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon told reporters in a statement.

While Harris was not deemed to be threatened by the cases, the Biden campaign canceled all of her planned campaign stops through Sunday, starting with a trip today to North Carolina.

“She will return to in-person campaigning on Monday, October 19th,” Dillon added. “This is the sort of conduct we have continuously modeled in this campaign.”

It’s the first time the Coronavirus has derailed campaign plans for Democrats; President Donald Trump was off the campaign trail for 10 days after testing positive for the virus and being hospitalized for several days.

A new poll out Thursday from the Associated Press shows 65 percent of Americans believe President Trump has not taken the virus outbreak seriously enough. 32 percent believe Mr. Trump has done all he could.

In a series of tweets Thursday morning, Harris said she has had two negative Coronavirus tests this week, and has not shown any symptoms of the virus.

“Both the crew member and the staff member were wearing N95 masks at all points they were near me, and our doctors believe that we were not exposed under CDC guidelines,” Harris said.

Harris said she would be ‘transparent’ about any test results - an obvious jab at the White House, where positive tests for staff members have not been routinely announced by the Trump Administration.
