Oklahoma sees low seasonal flu cases, no flu-related deaths in 2021

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Oklahoma State Department of Health reports there have been no deaths attributed to the seasonal flu so far this season.

OSDH reports 7 new flu cases for the week ending Jan. 9th, bringing the 2020-2021 total case number since September 1st of last year to 131.

During the same time period, OSDH reports 2,000 people have died due to COVID-19 and 4,800 people have been hospitalized.

Oklahoma District 7 Health Planning coordinator, Kristen Carollo, says the low flu numbers are attributed to the prevention efforts (masking, social distancing) people are taking to combat COVID--19.
