Blue Bell recalling select ice cream over possible plastic contamination

SYLACAUGA, Ala. — Blue Bell Creameries is recalling half-gallon containers of its Butter Crunch Ice Cream over concerns it could be contaminated with pieces of plastic from a broken tool.

The popular treat was delivered to stores in nine states, including Georgia, Alabama and Florida, according to a company press release.

The batches were made at the company's plant in Sylacauga, Alabama, on Aug. 26 and "may contain a foreign object," the company said.

"Blue Bell discovered the issue when it was notified by a consumer of the presence of a piece of a plastic tool in a half gallon of Butter Crunch Ice Cream," officials said.

The company investigated and discovered the tool inadvertently ended up in the production process.

The Butter Crunch under recall can be identified by the number 082621222 on the container lid.

Blue Bell said it's received no reports of injuries from the plastic contamination.

Customers can return the ice cream to the store where they bought it for a refund.
