Lt. Governor highlights record-breaking year for tourism revenue in 2021

OKLA. — Lieutenant Governor Matt Pinnell visited west Tulsa’s Redfork Depot Friday to continue to promote the state’s tourism industry.

One of Tulsa’s newer Route 66 attractions, the event venue opened less than a year ago.

Whether used for a wedding or reunion, Pinnell said the more than 250-person, train-themed space pushes the location limits on Tulsa’s more classic Route 66 attractions like Tally’s and Mother Road Market.

While the Redfork Depot is a relatively new spot, Pinnell said tourism dollars in Oklahoma have been growing for years, including through the pandemic. “2021 was the best year on state record when it comes to tourism revenue, over $10 billion dollars in direct spending in the state of Oklahoma.” With no plans to slow down leading up to the centennial celebration of the mother road, Pinnell told FOX23 the state will offer $6 million a year to cities to apply for through grants for Route 66-related projects.
