Wind and rain could hamper Thanksgiving travel

TULSA — Triple A says more than 50 million Americans are expected to travel this Thanksgiving season.

Forecasters say the weather might not cooperate.

“Get ready for the wind to really start cranking tomorrow at times,” said FOX23 and KRMG Chief Meteorologist James Aydelott. “Gusting above 35 miles per hour by afternoon.”

The sunshine is expected to stick around on Wednesday with the winds dying down a bit.

Thursday is when rain chances creep back into the forecast.

There’s an 80 percent chance for rain on Thursday, 70 percent Friday.

This will be the second-highest Thanksgiving travel volume since AAA began tracking in 2000, trailing only the record set in 2005.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday travel period, AAA Oklahoma’s Roadside Rescue team is projecting it will come to the aid of 2,466 stranded motorists.

Dead batteries, flat tires and lockouts will be the leading reasons.
