An investigation is underway after a group of students standing outside were shot with what police are now saying was a “fully automatic plastic gun,” Tuesday afternoon at the Union 6th/7th Grade Center.

Union Public Schools spokesperson Chris Payne says it happened around 2:30 p.m. when a car drove by a group of students who were outside during their break and shot at them with what he told FOX23 at the time was battery operated gun. Tulsa police are now saying it is a “fully automatic plastic gun.”

Tulsa police later released an update saying two students who were later caught, shot at students who were waiting for the bus.

Payne and Tulsa police both confirmed that the two suspects bought the gun at the Tulsa State Fair.

Tulsa police said in their update that it was 12 students and two teachers who were shot at, none injured.

Police say the two suspects have since been suspended.

Payne says parents at the 6th/7th Grade Center were notified of the event, even if their child wasn’t involved.

The incident took place on the west side of the 6th/7th Grade Center in a grassy area, said Payne.

Union Public School Police are now investigating the incident.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
