Tulsa mother defends daughter who fatally stabbed 9-year-old brother

TULSA — A mother has released a statement after the story on her son’s death started making the rounds on national news websites.

KRMG was on the scene of the stabbing when it happened at the apartment complex near 61st and Riverside in January of last year.

Officers learned the children’s parent was upstairs asleep when the 12-year-old daughter woke the parent up and said that she had stabbed her 9-year-old brother.

The boy was rushed to the hospital and taken into surgery. He died shortly after 2:30 a.m.

The mother’s statement is posted on a Gofundme page set up for the family.

The mother says, “They were raised as God-fearing children and never had behavioral issues until she was put back on a medication she was off for over a year.”

The mother goes on to say that the medicine wasn’t a psych med.

“I can’t get into details, because I’m not sure what all I’m allowed to share just yet. Just know my kids loved each other and always got along until the very end.”

The mother says she is supportive of her daughter, who is now getting treatment, and loves her very much.

“She has a very amazing team of experts that spend almost every day with her for hours sometimes.”

She hopes one day, after a lot of therapy, they will be able to live together again.
