Tulsa Greek Festival returns in-person, following several years of drive-thru events

TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Greek Festival has returned for its Diamond Anniversary. That’s 60 years of celebrating Greek culture in Green Country.

The annual festival was forced to transition to a drive-thru event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, they are ready to return in person for the 2022 festival.

“This is the only place really in Tulsa that you can get authentic Greek food,” said Tonya Boone, co-chair of the steering committee.

Chefs were also preparing for huge crowds.

“We have everything from full Greek dinners, to street food, sandwiches, Greek fries and of course our flaming cheese that everybody loves, the Saganaki,” Boone said.

Weekend activities include live music, dance group performances, tours of the church building and even a fry-eating contest.

This year the festival is offering a wine tasting.

“They get to test five different wines from Greece which you can’t get anywhere else,” Boone said.

Organizers of the event say they are glad that Greek traditions keep the community connected.

“Greek food, not only does it taste so good, it’s the passion behind it and when you see the flaming cheese and they shout “OPA!”

It’s just a neat feeling behind it. their culture, the history, just very passionate about their food,” Boone said.

The event takes place at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on Guthrie Avenue.

• Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
• Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
• Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
• Tickets are $5 for adults and kids get in free.
