Tulsa Fraternal Order of Police makes large donation to Special Olympics Torch Run

The Fraternal Order of Police Local 93 in Tulsa made the largest single donation in the history of the Oklahoma Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run Wednesday, contributing $15,000 to the non-profit organization.

The Tulsa Police Department, the FOP and law enforcement across the state have worked together with Special Olympics for many years.

"Our members decided we wanted to be a big sponsor this year," Clay Ballenger, President of FOP Local 93, told KRMG.

"We appreciate the generous gift from the FOP here in Tulsa, and it'll go to good use to help the athletes throughout the state," said Mark Wollmershouser, State Director of the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

It takes about $200 for each athlete to participate in the events each year, so the gift will ensure that at least 75 Special Olympians can compete, said Ballenger.
