Tulsa-area lots dealing with used car shortage

If you’re planning to buy a used car anytime soon, you may be in for a shock.

There’s a major shortage right now, and prices are way up.

Jorge Nava at Azteka Motor in Tulsa says they have less than half their normal inventory.

And as they try to stock up, they’re paying around $3,000 to $4,000 more per vehicle.

“Same vehicle, same mileage, same everything, just the price has went up,” Nava said.

Unfortunately, that cost has to be passed along to the customer if dealerships want to stay in business.

The used car shortage is the result of a domino effect.

A shortage of computer chips means that automakers can’t make as many new cars right now, but demand for vehicles is still high, so during the past several months, more people have turned to buying used cars instead.
