Store busts woman for identity theft

A woman writes down a debit card number and uses the digits to create fake cards of her own.

Tulsa police say Cherisia Meeks was taken into custody Friday afternoon at an undisclosed store.

Officers were called out to the scene, when she tried to purchase a gift card.  The store kept her in custody until TPD arrived.

Police say Meeks started to talk after being put in cuffs.  She confessed to writing down another person's card number during a purchase earlier in the month.  Meeks then paid money to get two cards created using the stolen number.

She has been using the stolen card number.  Police say her purchases totaled $2,000.

Meeks is currently in the Tulsa County Jail.  She faces one count of identity theft and an additional count of obtaining by fake pretense.
