Stitt to meet with state senate leaders Monday on school funding impasse

Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt, at his weekly news conference today, said he’s got a meeting set for Monday with state senate leaders to talk more about the school funding stalemate.

The House and Senate seem to be on the same page when it comes to tax credits for parents to use on private and charter school tuition.

But, because there are few if any private schools in many small towns, the House wants more funding for rural schools from the Senate.

“The House has been very clear that they want something for rural Oklahoma. They believe that the tax credit will predominantly be used in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, and they’re not wrong on that,” Stitt said.

Stitt, after his recent ‘veto-spree’, also made it clear again today that he wants something done about both school funding and his proposed cut to the state’s personal income tax rate, before he takes a look at other bills.
