Salvation Army Tulsa to resume summer camps June 1st

TULSA, Okla. — The Salvation Army is getting ready to open its five Boys & Girls Clubs for summer programming in just a few days and the health and safety of its campers is top of mind.

Salvation Army Officials say because many other organizations in town, including the City of Tulsa, have decided against hosting annual summer camps in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, they are happy to provide the service.

We’re told additional safety protocols have been put into place to follow the recommended CDC guidelines and limit the spread of coronavirus.

Each club will have limited check-in times and wellness health screenings every day.

Face coverings will be worn by staff and increased cleaning and sanitizing procedures will be instituted throughout the facilities.

The Salvation Army has been running a daycare out of its Mabee Red Shield location for children of essential workers since April.

The daycare is set to transition to summer camp come Monday, June 1st.

The area’s other four Boys & Girls clubs in Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Sand Springs and Sapulpa have been shutdown since March as they aligned with the state Department of Education’s decision to close down for the remainder of the school year.

There are still spots available at all five Boys & Girls Clubs for summer camp.
