Oklahoma puts the state's checkbook online

TULSA — In a move designed to make government more transparent, the State of Oklahoma has premiered a new website called “Oklahoma Checkbook.”

Gov. Kevin Stitt's office announced the site Wednesday.

In an email to KRMG, the governor said that the website fulfills a campaign promise.

“Since day one I have said we need to put our state government checkbook online so the people of Oklahoma can hold their agencies and elected officials accountable,” the news release states, in part. “Oklahoma Checkbook creates a level of accountability and transparency within Oklahoma’s government that is unprecedented. I look forward to seeing how this user friendly tool helps keep us on track to becoming a top ten state in budget transparency.”

One could spend days poring through all the data now accessible to anyone with Internet access.

The service is provided through OpenGov, which describes itself as "the leader in cloud-based solutions for government” and "the only integrated cloud solution for budgeting, performance, communications and reporting.”
