TULSA — The United States has seen massive growth in robocalls in recent years, according to the Federal Communications Commission.
The use of “spoofing” technology allows those behind the automated calls to block information about their true origin, and appear to be from your local area code.
As of June, 2021, the FCC required phone companies to employ technology known as STIR/SHAKEN, which identifies spoofed calls and flags them.
Not all companies have fully complied, and FCC recently announced some major fines.
In Oklahoma, Attorney General John O’Connor is calling on the public to help his office identify those making illegal robocalls, with the intent of identifying and prosecuting them.
The phone number is 405-521-2029.
