New Pikepass speedbumps

We’re now a few months into the process of changing over to new sticker Pikepasses.

The Turnpike Authority’s goal is to have everyone on the sticker tags within two years.

Jack Damrill is with the Turnpike Authority.

He tells KRMG, at first drivers were confused while installing the sticker on their windshields.

Damrill says, “That was some of the problem early on is people were pulling off the wrong thing.”

Now, they’ve changed the design so that won’t happen.

Drivers will get plenty of notice with three cards coming to you in the mailbox.

That’s good news for Sloan Lyle who said, “I think I was waiting until it would stop working probably. Then it would force me to go and figure out.”

We asked Damrill, why not just send the stickers instead?

He says that would be a whole lot of cost up front.

Plus, he says, “We weren’t sure how many cars people had on their account.  Because some people may not have registered their cars on their account.”

That leads to another issue that has popped up with drivers.

Damrill says you can no longer borrow the spouses Pikepass.

Each car has to have a sticker.

So, what about a rental car or a boat?

Damrill says what they decided to do is use a new version of the old plastic box.

Another question from drivers is what to do with the old Pikepass.

Damrill says follow the same rule as the old batteries around your house.

Once you receive your Pikepass, if you have questions, call 1-800-745-3727.
