New apartments open soon in vacant buildings near Pearl District

For a long time, it looked like it might not happen, because of pandemic-related delays and other development obstacles, but the renovation of the old Tulsa Boys’ Home near 6th and Peoria is just a couple of months from opening.

The buildings, which have been a vacant eyesore and crime-magnet for years, will be called the Quincy Park Apartments, with 72 units in total.

Developers and city leaders say the influx of residents will give a nice economic boost to both the Pearl District to the north and the Route 66 area to the south.

“If you want to have retail establishment, you need people to go to them, and this is right between the corridors of 6th and 11th, so people that are living here can walk to both of those,” said Kevin Rice with Amenome, one of the companies developing the property.

He says the late 1940′s buildings were well-built and still in great shape despite years of neglect and sitting empty.

He says he was glad to save them from the wrecking ball.

The project is expected to be complete sometime in May.
