Municipal, school board, and/or bond elections held in several Tulsa metro precincts

Voting on education

TULSA — UPDATE: School bond issues and municipal propositions fared well in the metro area Tuesday, as voters approved them in Bixby, Jenks, Sand Springs, and Sapulpa.

Meanwhile, Tulsa Public School Board Office 7 will go to an April run-off, as none of the candidates managed to get more than fifty percent of the vote.

The two top vote-getters in that race were Susan Lamkin with 1,836 votes (48.69%) and Tim Harris with 1,766 (46.83%).

Tulsa Union School Board Office 2 will have a run-off between Shelley Gwartney and Chris McNeil, while Debbie Taylor beat three other candidates vying to fill Office 2 on the Broken Arrow School Board.

Cody Worrell and Michael Phillips appear headed for a run-off in Sand Springs City Council Ward 1, while Ward Barnett held off Patty Dixon and will assume a council seat in Sand Springs Ward 2.

In Sapulpa, Carla Gunn and London Dobson will advance to a run-off in Council Ward 2.

Tulsa County Election Board Secretary Gwen Freeman told KRMG Tuesday evening that the process went smoothly, with no major issues at any of the precincts.

Early on, as usual, a couple of locations had minor problems getting the machines up and the doors opened for business, but any issues were quickly handled, she said.

Even in early returns, it was clear that Tulsa voters had approved a 15-year extension of the city’s franchise agreement with PSO.

The new agreement adds an additional payment of 1% of the utility’s gross receipts to the city, which will use that money to help maintain roads.

An existing payment of 2% of PSO’s gross was extended.
