Multimillion-dollar veterans hospital approved for Tulsa

TULSA — The Veterans Administration announced Monday that the federal government approved $120 million in funding for a hospital at 7th and Houston.

The entire project will cost $130 million. The rest of the money was raised.

The project was announced in February 2020 as part of the Fiscal Year 2021 President’s Budget submitted to Congress.

The plan was approved on Dec. 21 and signed by President Donald Trump Sunday.

Right now, more than two-thirds of the 47,000 veterans who receive services in Muskogee are from the Tulsa metro area.

Construction crews will convert the existing Kerr-Edmondson Buildings on the site into a modern 275,000 square-foot, 58-bed medical-surgical hospital for veterans.

The hospital is expected to be open to patients in late 2024.
