Man shot by police outside Sapulpa hotel on Christmas Eve

SAPULPA, Okla. — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) is investigating after an officer-involved shooting at a hotel Tuesday morning near Sapulpa.

Sapulpa police say a man called 9-1-1 and said he was homicidal and planned to shoot the next person he saw.

Officers with the Sapulpa Police Department were dispatched to the Regency Inn near West 49th East Avenue and West 61st Street. Police say shots were fired shortly after they arrived.

“He was asked to show his hands and when he did, he turned and brought them up in a threatening manner towards the officers,” said Captain Glenn Coffey with the Sapulpa Police Department.

Police say two officers fired shots and the man was shot at least once.

The officers involved in the shooting are now on paid administrative leave.

Police said the man, identified as Carl McBee, is expected to survive.
