Man shot and killed by Sallisaw police

SALLISAW, Okla. — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is now looking into a fatal officer-involved shooting near Sallisaw.

Police got a call about a suspicious person walking along Highway 59 that matched the description of an escapee from Missouri.

Investigators say 27-year-old Shawn Taylor Watie of Stillwell, was shot when he went after the officers with a knife.

Watie was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The names of the two officers haven’t been released.

They are currently on paid administrative leave.
