Oklahoma Task Force 1, which includes Tulsa Fire Department firefighters, are getting some specialized training this week in a wide variety of urban search and rescue techniques.
Trench rescue for example is something they don’t get to practice very much.
But as one trainer explained it, workers in trenches - such as construction and utility workers - are so common, there’s a chance of an accident every day.
Today’s training is part of a three-day course that includes trench rescue, structure collapse, rope rescues (pictured above), wide-area rescues, damage assessment, and K-9 search and rescue.
The trainers say they tried to create an environment that was as realistic and challenging as possible for the rescue crews to test their skills.
