Governor announces $1,200 return to work incentive

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt announced a couple of bold moves Monday to get people back to work.

“Our challenge is not to get businesses back open,” said Gov. Kevin Stitt. “We’ve done that. It’s been getting employees back to work. Without a doubt, one of the factors causing this has been the continued extension of extra federal benefits.”

Gov. Kevin Stitt says he’ll end those benefits on June 26.

He says the state will start handing out $1,200 to people who go back to work.

Oklahoma Employment Security Commission Executive Director Shelley Zumwalt describes how it will work.

“The $1,200 return to work incentive is for claimants currently receiving PUA, PEUC, or UI between May 2 and May 15,” said Zumwalt.

Zumwalt also says you must complete six consecutive weeks of employment with 32 hours a week at the same job.
