Girl Scouts to visit Capitol for centennial

Nearly 1,000 Girl Scouts and volunteers are expected to converge on the Oklahoma State Capitol to commemorate the organization's centennial.

Former Lt. Gov. Jari Askins, state Rep. Emily Virgin and Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals Presiding Judge Arlene Johnson will talk to the girls about getting involved in public service and the value of leadership they learned as Girl Scouts.

Officials say the girls will welcome the 33 women elected to state office in Oklahoma into honorary Troop 1912, including Sen. Susan Paddack, Rep. Lee Denney and state School Superintendent Janet Barresi.
