Gathering Place marks 6 months since opening

TULSA — Tulsa's Gathering Place opened six months ago, and in that time it has already gained an international reputation.

KRMG sat down with Park Director Tony Moore and Director of Marketing Katie Bullock to get their take on those first months, and some background on what Tulsans can expect next.

The short answer is - quite a bit.

Beginning with a number of events planned for Spring Break, and a musical festival featuring Oklahoma musicians, the plan moving forward includes a full calendar of events and activities which the team hopes will become annual traditions in themselves.

Pet lovers will be glad to hear about “Dog Day Wednesdays,” with more details coming soon.

And the park continues to work on addressing parking and traffic issues, the only real area of concern for most customers.

“We’re working with some initiatives with the city,” Moore told KRMG. “We’re close, I’m not in a position to say yet until it’s inked and dried. But we’re working on some additional parking options, and we’re also rethinking the satellite parking.”

Moore said all the upcoming events and festivities will remain free of charge.

“Thank you to the City of Tulsa,” he added, “thanks to George Kaiser Family Foundation, thanks to all the eighty donors that gave to make this a free experience for Tulsans and for Oklahomans.”
