FOP takes stand on Office of Independent Monitor

Tulsa, Okla. — There is new information from the Tulsa Police Department Fraternal Order of Police about its stance on the Office of the Independent Monitor.

That office is being created as a way to monitor negative actions by police.

The current plan is modeled from a similar program in Denver, Colorado.

That program has been criticized as being too harsh on officers.

The FOP welcomes the oversight of the office but says, "The Office of Independent Monitor as currently proposed by Mayor Bynum could have unintended consequences. We believe there is a better option which could include oversight from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation."
