Fisherman accused of eating his collegue

Fisherman Salvador Alvarenga survived more than a year lost at sea.

Now, he is being sued for $1 million by the family of his dead fishing partner.

The family of Ezequiel Cordoba is accusing Alvarenga of eating their loved one.

The two were on a two-day fishing trip along the Mexican coast in November 2012, when a nasty storm washed their supplies overboard and knocked out the boat's communication systems.

Nationalpost.com says according to Alvarenga, Cordoba freaked out and attempted to throw himself overboard.

After several months Cordoba died. Alvarenga claims he kept the corpse for about a week, chatting to it until he realized what he was doing was insane  and tossed it overboard.

Alvarenga has authored a book about the experience, 438 Days. “I believe that this demand is part of the pressure from this family to divide the proceeds of royalties,” said Ricardo Cucalon, Alvarenga’s lawyer.

He said Alvarenga has consistently rejected the idea that he consumed Cordoba.
